As the days are getting longer, and I have more after work and school activities, my mind and body longs for the relaxing warmth of a bath in the evening. For me it is a part of my nightly ritual, it is relaxing, it takes me away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and it gets me set for sleep.
A bath can not only relax your muscles, but it can pamper your skin as you soak, and restore your mental state. Simple things such as bath salts, essential oils, or MicroSilk® can make an otherwise ordinary bath become a therapeutic spa treatment in the comfort of your own home.
Soaking in it as well as drinking it (not straight out of the bath, obviously) is a great way to keep your skin and body hydrated. Aside from the benefits of hydration, bathing is a great stress relief. When you step into a warm bath, you have that brief moment where you just settle in and say “aah,” and the warmth of the water just takes your mind and body away to the relaxing place you have been longing for all day.
Recently, a professor at Loughborough University investigated the effect of a hot bath on blood sugar control and energy expended. Through this experiment, they found the participants burned as many calories from taking a hot bath as they burned in a half-hour walk.
Taking care of yourself is the most important thing you can do. So tonight, run a hot bath and relax. You deserve it.
